Professional teeth whitening for a bright smile
Teeth whitening has become a very popular request at dental offices. There are various methods to bleach your teeth, these include using whitening toothpaste or getting it done by the professionals. Our practitioners at St John Dental are the professional teeth whitening experts in Perth.
St John Dental prides itself on offering quality and affordable services – which is why we go above and beyond duty when it comes to your dental health. This process is not as simple as just setting up an appointment and having the procedure. We would advise that you book a whitening examination first to determine whether you are a suitable candidate for dental bleaching. Our practitioners will also discuss the procedure with you and provide an estimate of the cost. For more information or to book an appointment, contact us today.
If your teeth are sensitive, it is recommended that you not bleach your teeth. For a comprehensive consultation, contact our dentists to determine if you are a suitable candidate.
The difference between internal and external bleaching
There are many different teeth bleaching methods available, the common procedures being internal and external bleaching.
The external bleaching process consists of a bleaching compound that is placed directly onto the teeth to protect your gums and mouth from the high intensity light that is used in the dental teeth whitening process.
The internal process is a little different as this requires access to the inside of the tooth. Our practitioners conventionally use internal bleaching on root canal-treated teeth. This combats internal staining, which is caused by blood and other fluids leaking into the tooth during an infection.
Most teeth whitening treatments can be done in a single visit to the dentist and take approximately 30 minutes to one hour.
Our Teeth Whitening Process
It is recommended that you have your teeth checked by our dentists before the teeth whitening process. Upon consultation, we will examine your teeth thoroughly, inspecting the hard and soft tissues. We use whitening shade guides to measure tooth colour before and after the process. These shades determine the effectiveness of the whitening procedure, which may vary up to nine shades lighter.
The effects of bleaching should last for several months but is also dependent on your lifestyle. For two weeks after bleaching it is recommended to avoid foods that may stain the enamel – a good example of such foods is beetroot and wine.
